Welcome to the Swan Hill Region, a bustling agricultural hub,
with Swan Hill city at its centre.
Just three and a half hours north-west from Melbourne and five and a half hours from Adelaide, our region is renowned for its Murray River location, its fresh local produce, sprawling landscapes, Australian native wildlife and Aboriginal heritage.
The region runs alongside the majestic Murray River for nearly 200 kilometres, with our 6,100 square kilometres featuring changing landscapes, bends of the River, and enchanting townships like Lake Boga, Nyah/Nyah West, Woorinen, and the regional centre of Robinvale.
The original custodians of the lands are the Latji Latji, Tati Tati, Wamba Wamba, Barapa Barapa and the Wadi Wadi Nations. The strong cultural connection to the land for Aboriginal people continue to this day.
The Mighty Murray River
There is a special magic about rivers, and the Murray is one of the most magical of all. The stunning Murray River travels more than 2756 kilometers. It is the third-largest navigable river in the world and the Swan Hill region is home to the most un-spoilt natural section of it all.
Pioneer Settlement
From the 1850s pioneer cottages, to Towaninnie Homestead to the Mallee Township, you can wander at leisure in a bygone world experiencing real Australian history at Pioneer Settlement. Complimentary vintage car or horse and carriage rides are an ideal way to see the sights.
Catalina Flying Boat Museum
The Catalina Flying Boat Museum is a memorial to those who worked on and with the Flying Boats during World War II, particularly commemorating the contribution made by service men and women stationed at the secret No. 1 Flying Boat Repair Depot, Lake Boga, Victoria.
Mensforth Park
Mensforth Park is a delightful park located in the heart of Tooleybuc and next to the mighty Murray River. Boasting beautifully maintained lawns, a children's playground including a flying fox, plus public toilets, outdoor kitchen and undercover deck area at the adjacent Bridge Keepers Cottage.
Murray Downs Golf & Country Club
Murray Downs Golf and Country Club is located five minutes over the Murray River from Swan Hill. The club is highly regarded and brings the best that a regional course has to offer. Murray Downs Golf and Country Club is sure to please both on and off the course.
Scrap Wire Sculptures
Retired local farmer Jim Watson started creating these unique Scrap Wire Sculptures after seeing similar artwork at a country museum and thinking 'I can do that!'. So using his bare hands, he transformed scrap wire into interesting art forms.
Aboriginal History and Heritage
Before European settlement in the nineteenth century, the Wemba-Wemba occupied the area around the Loddon River, reaching northwards from Kerang, Victoria to Swan Hill. To this day they have a deep connection to the country and strong community ties.

The Murray River is a top destination for either the serious or those who just want to relax and dabble in a bit of bird watching. The Swan Hill region, with over 500km of river frontage, is renowned for its natural beauty, diversity and most importantly, serenity.
